American Idol champ Carrie Underwood’s wedding to Ottawa Senators hockey player Mike Fisher sounds like a modern-day fairy tale! Fisher and Underwood, who began dating in 2009, tied the knot in front of 250 family members and guests, including Garth Brooks, Faith Hill and ‘Idol’ judges Paula Abdul, Randy Jackson and Simon Cowell.
“The wedding was romantic and spiritual — perfect Southern wedding,” a hotel employee tells UsMagazine.com of the nuptials.
Underwood – wearing a Chantilly lace Monique Lhuillier gown and a ban.do feather headpiece with Swarovski crystals — said “I Do” in front of more than 200 guests at the Ritz Carlton Reynolds Plantation in Greensboro, Ga. At the ceremoney she wore Stuart Weitzman shoes and white satin AVALON sling-backs with Swarovski crystals to compliment a short Monique Lhuillier cocktail dress at the reception.
Classical music? I guess that’s OK. You can’t really walk down the aisle to the cry of a steel guitar. So Carrie Underwood and Mike Fisher chose classical music and Bible readings to make their wedding day (July 10) a spiritual one. And according to People magazine, the bride wore a Chantilly lace Monique Lhuillier dress, which I’m sure was gorgeous even though I’ve seen no pictures to corroborate that.
(Underwood’s publicist says there are no plans to release wedding photos to the media.) “We could not feel more blessed to have found each other and to have shared this day with our friends and family that mean so much to us!” the newly-married couple told the magazine. Best of all, they signed the statement “Mike & Carrie Fisher.” I’m sure it’s the first of many times they’ll write their names together like that. But still, that first time is just so romantic.
I”m kind of glad I’m not out there because it sounds like it would be a largely fruitless (and hot) affair. Private security kept them off the private road leading to the hotel and cops kept them off the public roads after 90 minutes of taking limos rolling in.
